I quit my day job in 1995 thanks to self publishing a book I wrote on personal security. That book and the associated back-end business made me a handsome six figures.

I was gob smacked that someone with no college degree, business degree, in fact academic qualifications of any kind worth mentioning could rake in that kind of money simply by using ‘common sense marketing’.

In 1999 I set-up and managed one of the first affiliate programmes. In fact I recruited over 3000 affiliates into my network within less than six months, prompting the then CEO of 1shoppingcart.com, Rob Bell to call me and let me know that I had built (at that time) the biggest affiliate network using his service.

When I quit the ‘security market’, I took what I knew worked and built other businesses in markets as diverse as holistic health, survival, food, natural history, and personal development.

I’ve quietly worked in the background of Internet Marketing working with a few close clients. Some of them are just folks wanting to get by in difficult times, and others are hugely successful multi-millionaires. However I don’t just accept anyone, for starters I have to like what you are doing. Yup I know, how old fashioned and principled!

Contrary to what you might see coming across the pond from the USA, you don’t actually have to sell crap, or become a marketing bully or some kind of hype-monster in order to grow your business. You just need good strategy, smart thinking and a guiding hand to put all the pieces of the marketing puzzle together…

And in today’s world of blogs, pay per click, local search, copywriting, social media, affiliate recruitment, video marketing, article marketing, press release marketing and on and on it goes… you can be forgiven if you feel you are drowning in information overload, and paralysed because you just don’t know where to start… and you’d be right.
